Brown Turkey Fig Tree (Ficus carica ‘Brown Turkey’)

The Brown Turkey fig produces two harvests each year.  This variety produces small to medium, violet to brown-skinned fruit with a reddish amber flesh. Its rich sweet flavor makes it perfect for eating fresh, dehydrating, baking and preserving. Some people use them as a sweetener in place of sugar.

Sunlight: Full Sun

Soil: Well-drained, organically rich soil that is neutral to acidic. Figs do not tolerate alkaline soils.

Water: Water weekly until established. Water established trees deeply as needed. You may need to water more often in times of extreme heat or drought.

Mulch: Mulch roots to maintain moisture and especially in the fall to protect them throughout the winter.

Pruning: Light pruning each winter may be necessary to maintain an attractive shape.

Container: This tree can be grown in a container in cooler climates.

The Brown Turkey fig is self-pollinating, but planting pollinating partners can increase the size of your crops. Average height 10′ – 25′ and width 12′ – 15′. Required Chill Hours: 100.
