Fuyu Persimmon Tree (Diospyros kaki ‘Fuyu’)

The Fuyu Persimmon tree produces bright yellow flowers that attract pollinators. The fruit is donut shape and a vibrant orange color when ripe. When fully established a mature tree can produce 300 pounds of fruit.

Sunlight: Full sun minimum 6 hrs per day.

Soil: Well-drained loamy or sandy soil with a pH level of 6.0 to 7.5.

Water: Water weekly until established. Water established trees deeply as needed. This tree is drought resistant.

Fertilizer: Use a balanced fertilizer in the spring.

The Fuyu Persimmon tree is the most commonly grown persimmon throughout the world. In spring it produces bright yellow flowers that attract pollinators. The fruit is donut shape and a vibrant orange color when ripe. Once the skin is a deep orange and soft to the touch it is ripe and ready to enjoy. Harvest in September-October. When fully established a mature tree can produce 300 pounds of fruit.

Plant in full sun with well-drained loamy soil.  It is a self-pollinating tree; however, it will produce more fruit with a second Fuyu to cross-pollinate with. Once established, it is drought tolerant. Average height 12′ – 15′ and 10′ – 12′ wide. Required Chill Hours: 100-200. USDA hardiness zones 7 – 11.
